Mvi is a reference blog that isn't just about the paranormal, the bizarre and the mysterious, but anything that's of a peculiar interest.

Is the perception of synchronicity just an empty aspect of human imagination? Is serendipity just another component of wishful or
magicalthinking? While several things can be dismissed as coincidence, some things seem to have a connection far beyond a simple level of coincidence. Its all a matter of ones level of perception.

Through out earth time, people continually
imagine & speculate
how consciousness & the
multi-level
universe function. S
cience has its theories about how the universe started & functions. Like a vast software program, its constantly updated. However, in spite of several clues, so much remains inconclusive. Religion, philosophy &
synchronicity also provide various accounts of origin & existence. So far, most people tend to take a narrow view of perception &
reality. What happens when a person with a scientific background starts to compare what religion & philosophy imply? Well,
Edgar_Mitchell wanted to expand his awareness beyond his scientific foundation, so he established the
Institute_of_Noetic_Sciences.

Virtual_reality can be used to recreate almost any event, place or time. Just think what can happen when several people start to take a CSI interest to history, time, existence & reality. Its all part of the
art of questioning & examining reality.

{On the surface, Bostrom's
simulation hypothesis is an example of a
skeptical hypothesis, a proposal concerning the nature of reality put forward to question beliefs, and as such, there is a long history to the underlying thesis that reality is an
illusion. This thesis can be dated back to
Plato, arguably underpins the Mind-Body Dualism of
Descartes, and is closely related to
phenomenalism, a stance briefly adopted by
Bertrand Russell. However, Bostrom has argued that this is not the case, and that there are empirical reasons why the 'Simulation Hypothesis' might be valid. He suggests that if it is possible to simulate entire inhabited planets or even entire universes on a computer, and that such simulated people can be fully conscious, then the sheer number of such simulations likely to be produced by any sufficiently advanced civilization (taken together with his Strong Self-Sampling Assumption) makes it extremely likely that we are in fact currently living in such a simulation.}

{In much need for R&R, the Enterprise visited the planet a second time in
2269. They learned that the caretaker, an elderly man at the time they originally met him, had died. They also became embroiled in the schemes of the planetary
master computer. This extremely sophisticated intelligence had grown disenchanted with its life of servitude. Charged by its builders with scanning the minds of visitors, and manufacturing their fantasies, it wanted more. To achieve its goals, it imperiled a number of Enterprise crew, and ultimately kidnapped
Lieutenant Uhura. After several discussions with her, it eventually embraced a modified worldview, and released the threatened crew members. (
TAS: "
Once Upon a Planet")
Background
The caretaker may have been an actual member of the race that built the planet – or may have been an idealized figure constructed from memories. Inasmuch as the planet functioned in the same manner as a holodeck, it is difficult to trust anything experienced there, especially given that the parameters were designed by
alien minds, and implemented by alien machinery.
The builders of this world possessed an extremely advanced technology. We know they achieved mechanical telepathy and the rapid construction and programming of what was essentially artificial life, and that they did this on a planetary scale, for the declared purpose of amusing themselves.}

Are You Living in a Computer Simulation? This paper argues that at least one of the following propositions is true: (1) the human species is very likely to go extinct before reaching the posthuman stage; (2) any posthuman civilization is extremely unlikely to run significant number of simulations or (variations) of their evolutionary history; (3) we are almost certainly living in a computer simulation. It follows that the naïve transhumanist dogma that there is a significant chance that we will one day become posthumans who run ancestor-simulations is false, unless we are currently living in a simulation. A number of other consequences of this result are also discussed. [Philosophical Quarterly, 2003, Vol. 53, No. 211, pp. 243-255] [
